Alma thought she had two rail passes securely reserved. She wants to travel from East Texas to visit her brother and his family in Chicago for Thanksgiving. But by the time she had scraped up enough cash for hers and Justin’s tickets, she was told that the original price quote had went through the roof. As if that would stop her -- this girl is not one to let anything or anyone thwart her plans. Maybe her stubborn streak stems from her short stature. Or maybe it comes from me shoving her down the stairs several times when we were little kids.

So the stubborn child hung up the phone and immediately called the bus station. Now her next goal is to find a way for a Whataburger to survive the twenty-four-hour ride she and her grandson will begin tomorrow.

There is no doubt in my mind that she won’t fail either. I do love this feisty gal.
